Right off the bat I would like to advise you not to try card counting. The idea of card counting has been glorified by television and the movies. It is however extremely difficult to master and casinos pick up on it fairly quickly. At regular land based casinos measures have been implemented to make it extremely difficult for players to count cards. These measures include using a few decks at the same time and shuffling all the cards every few hands. They also use new decks of cards on a regular basis, so it is near impossible to establish a pattern based on what has been dealt and what hasn’t.
Just another famous “rookie mistake” is copying another player at the table’s playing style. Playing more agressively or holding back more depending on what they do, will more often than not result in your chips dissappearing very quickly.
Now after all the doom and gloom of what not to do, let’s get into the good stuff: the blackjack strategy. The foundation of blackjack strategy is the basic blackjack strategy. This has been worked out by mathmeticians based on the probabilities of the outcome of the hands based on what you are dealt and what the dealer has.
If you follow learn this chart and you follow the basic blackjack strategy, you cut down the house’s advantage to a bare minimum. The result would be that you would many more “paydays” when playing at a casino. I will give you the chart below in a few seconds, but I would like to suggest that you check back regularly as we will be updating these pages with useful blackjack strategy information on a regular basis.
So without further delay, here is the basic blackjack strategy chart:

Blackjack Strategy
- H = Hit
- S = Stand
- D = Double if allowed, otherwise hit
- D/S = Double if allowed, otherwise stand
- Sp = Split
- H/Sp = Split if allowed to double after a split, otherwise hit
- Su/H = Surrender if allowed, otherwise hit.
If I can make a suggestion I would like to suggest that you print out the chart and keep it next to you when playing. This way you will learn how the chart works and in no time have it commited to memory.
How the chart basically works is it shows you what to do based on the two cards dealt to you and the one card you can see of the dealer’s hand. Follow the instructions just below the chart and you are good to go.
Note: There is another pitfall that you would seriously need to avoid and that it is NEVER a good idea to take insurance. Just don’t do it. It kills your odds big time.
